Hi to all my loyal followers who haven’t received a blog post since March 2017! I’m finally BACK…in Mexico!
I’ll be presenting TEXTILANDIA of Chiapas – Feb.. 8th,, 2018 at 5:30 pm at OLL Oaxaca Lending Library on Pino Suarez 519 – CALL 951 – 518 – 7077 to reserve a seat.
The presentation will demystify visiting markets, museums, textile coops in Chaiaps, for those of you have been wanting to explore the Mundo Maya/Mayan world of textiles. How to get around on your own, find transportation to and from and what to expect at each market. This information comes from my book: “Textile Fiestas of Mexico….a travelers guide” (2016 THRUMS) from the chapter on Chiapas. I’ve also covered other important accessible artisan events in regions of Mexico besides Oaxaca and Chiapas….(i.e, Michoacan, Puebla, State of Mexico). It’s helpful to know what the BEST traditional textiles are to be found in each place and I’ve definitely been there! The book is available at Amates English Bookstore on Alcala, Oaxaca and may be at the presentation too.
As you may have guessed 2017 was the year of running around promotion my book (which won THREE Independent publishers awards for BEST TRAVEL BOOK) wooohooo!!! I’ve also been concentrating on selling textile treasure on my Etsy shop LIVING TEXTILES and in Santa Fe where I live. Currently my shop is ‘on vacation’ while I shop my favorite places in Mexico and photograph my favorite remote villages. Opens again March 14th….check it out!
